FACE EXTENSION PRINTMAKING

In this 3-day workshop you will create a most unusual self-portrait, and turn it into a relief print using recycled materials and experiment with the printed image to add expressive variety.  What could be better than that?!

In the first class we will draw an extension of our faces on paper, turn the lines into shapes, then turn the shapes into a relief plate for printmaking using recycled materials.

The next two classes will be devoted to printing your self-portrait in various ways.  First is working to get a clean print.  Then some guided mixed media exploration including mixing ink colors, unusual papers and collage.  Also you will learn about accurately labeling and signing prints.

Students need to bring:

DAY ONE: pencil, eraser, scissors, gloves (disposables are fine), Elmer’s glue

DAYS TWO AND THREE: Glue stick, colored paper (old cheap construction paper is fine), other random cool papers lying around, various colored pencils, markers, pastels, oil pastels, and several magazines to cut up if you have any.

Optional: If you have a brayer or a baren that would be helpful to bring.

Materials supplied: recycled printer paper for multiple drawings, white soft pastel, inner tube, scrap mat board, acrylic gel varnish, various brushes, ink, brayers, palette knives, baren, and some various papers.

Students get 10% off class supplies, or 15% off for an amazing celebrity impression!

Class will be three consecutive days:

Tuesday 8/15 – Thursday 8/17 4-6pm

Your Instructor: Marvin Pauls is a mixed media artist who also taught art at Hellgate High School for 29 years. Printmaking is his primary medium. He came up with a more involved version of this project for a Printmaking class created during his tenure at Hellgate. Now he gets to share his unique style of printmaking with the public! HUZZAH!

$60 per seat, 10 seats available, includes all three sessions. Open to students 15 years old and up.

Register online, by phone, by email, or just come on in and see us!

All class fees are non-refundable
